Ardingly Shunt

On Tuesday 20 May the new diesel was used to shunt the Ardingly siding. This process invoved the removal of all the vehicles in the road from the northern end of the station, behind the signal box and down to the buffer stops. This was to enable the removal of several vehicles of interest to C&W (LSWR 320, SECR 1050, SECR 950 & SR 7864 to name four. The partially empty up yard opened up some rarely seen vistas and enabled some of the more reclusive stock to have their photos taken.
 Bulleid semi-open brake third 4227 waits in plaform 3. This vehicle has a half compartment coupe instead of a lavatoy.

With stored seating visible through the sidelights, SR built 1456 is shunted through Platform 2. This coach was built in 1947 as part of a 6 car dining set for the Waterloo to Bournemouth service.

Recently withdreawn Bulleid brake 2515 and Maunsell 1019 occupy Platforms 3 & 2. 1019, unlisted in the stockbook, was bought for scrapping but is being used by S&T for storage in the interim.

Maunsell composite 5644 and restriction 1 corridor third 2356 pass the pumphouse. 5644 is substantially complete and is a likely candidate for restoration in the medium term.
